Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time — July  4, 2009

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

We welcome Fr. Glen home from his break and trust that he had a restful time.  However on Friday he had a phone call from The Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Fr. John Usher, asking him to go to Denistone as Administrator of the Parish, as the resident priest had taken ill and will be a way for some time.  So he will leave us this week.  He will be saying all the Masses this weekend so that he can say goodbye to everyone. We thank Fr. Glen for his pastoral care for us all and for his expertise, particularly in the recent talks he gave on St. Paul. Unfortunately, the talks on the Vatican history have to be cancelled. We wish him well. I hope we will be able to have a farewell for him one evening in the near future. We will have to wait for a while before we get a new assistant priest.

Also, this weekend Peter Kwak leaves us to return to the Seminary.  He has been very faithful to learning about parish life and I am sure he will reflect upon the experience for the next few years and form ideas about his priestly ministry in the future.  Thank you Peter for your dedication, faith and willingness to learn.  May Almighty God bless you for the future.  We will pray for you as you journey towards the priesthood.

First  Communion will be held on Sunday 16th August at the 9.30 am Mass and at an extra Mass at 12 noon.  You might like to make a note of this so that the 9.30 am Mass may be left for the First Communicants’ families.  Please pray for these young people as they prepare for this most wonderful day in their lives.  It is a chance for us to renew our appreciation of this great sacrament.

In today’s Gospel reading we see Jesus return to his home town and speak in the Synagogue.  The locals queried how he could have learnt all that he spoke about and were rather derogatory.  Jesus commented: “A prophet is only despised in his own country, among his own relations and in his own house.”  The reading concludes: “He was amazed at their lack of faith.”  We pray: Lord, increase my faith.

In Christ,

                                                                                  Kerry.

Apostolate Of The Sea

Next Sunday is the Apostolate of the Sea Sunday, when we are asked to remember and  pray for all seafarers.  These men and women travel the world delivering goods for our benefit, but we would rarely meet any of them because they are in and out of port very quickly.  The ships they travel in are very well equipped with modern technology and are very safe.  Nonetheless, we are aware that there are dangers involved.  Piracy has been occurring in recent times and is to  be condemned.  So next Sunday we will pray  for them and for those who minister to them and care for their spiritual needs.

A Word From Mary Mackillop

Mary Mackillop was a woman who was deeply attentive to the power of the Holy Spirit working in her life from an early age.

From early childhood, as far back as I can remember,

He gave me such a sense of

His watchful presence that I

Would feel myself reproved for

My smallest faults. 1873

She firmly believed she was being called by God to achieve a particular work.

Mary Mackillop had a consistent vision of a loving God at work in the world and present in every circumstances of her life. She constantly sought God’s will for herself and for the Institute.

Young people...Can you help?

Readers, A/V operators, Helpers for Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Musicians and Singers are always needed at our Sunday Masses. If you would like to be more involved please  contact Fr. Kerry or the Parish Office.

Spiritual Direction

‘God’s deepest desire is always for life!...In whatever circumstances we find ourselves, there are always opportunities, large and small, to be prophets to people, to speak the word of God with integrity, fidelity, compassion and justice, responding to what is happening around us from the core conviction in our hearts that God wills life and not death.’                      Russell Hardiman - Pastoral Liturgy

Listen with intention, to the stirrings of God within! Interested in Spiritual Direction on a regular basis?
