5th Sunday Ordinary Time Year C — February 7, 2010

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

This Sunday is Catechist Sunday and we will have a short video at the homily time and the Catechists will be commissioned at each Mass.  Fr. Harry Payne will be saying the 5.30 Vigil Mass and Fr. John Knight will be celebrating Sunday evening 6.00 pm Mass.  On Monday morning there will be a Communion Service at 7.00 am. Masses at 9.15 am on Wednesday and Friday will be commencement Masses for  Our Schools.

Next Sunday we will be promoting Project Compassion for this year.  Michael Whitely will be speaking at all Masses.  Boxes and Envelopes will be available.

Congratulations on your gifts to the Haiti Appeal.  You have given just over $10,000.00.

At the Finance Committee meeting last Tuesday night,  it was  reported that over the last six months of last year, our Envelope Collection had dropped by $10,000,00. It is a concern because it puts our finances under stress particularly if it continues.  We intend to  have a Planned Giving Renewal Programme this year.  However, if anyone would like a set of envelopes or wishes to give by Credit Card please let us know at the office.

What happens to the money you give?  Briefly, the First Collection, stole fees for Baptisms and Weddings, Christmas and Easter Dues all go into the Pastoral Revenue Account.  From this all costs are taken for the board and lodgings of the priests, a monthly stipend for each priest, a percentage goes to the Archbishop to help him care for those for whom he is responsible.  At the end of each quarter any residue goes into a central fund to help priests whose parishes are not able to support them.

The Second Collection and the Planned Giving Envelopes go into the Parish Account and are used for running of the parish the parish , repairs and maintenance, capital expenditure, wages, car expenses etc.  I hope this helps.

Yours In Christ,

                                                                                  Kerry.

Reflection

In today’s Gospel Jesus calls his first disciples. In 2010, how do we listen for  Jesus’ call?

At the still point of my turning world, at the core of my being, I wait to hear & feel the gentle presence of God who calls me to open and let go. Can I go to that place where God is calling me?
