Third Sunday of Advent –December 11,  2011

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

We have come to the Third Sunday of Advent and the church recognizes that we are coming close the Christmas and in its Liturgy this Sunday it rejoices in anticipation. As a consequence the priest may wear Rose coloured vestments.

As we are only two weeks away from Christmas I recommend you take a copy of the times for Masses and reconciliation if you haven’t done so already. It would be good if you wish to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation that you do so early.  We also are having a 2nd Rite on Tuesday week December 20th at 7.30 pm when we hope to have a number of priest available to help us.

Last Tuesday I was asked to be on a panel of people to speak about our vocation.  This was at the Leadership Training Course that Fr. Kim is on at Bringelly. It was a very pleasant morning.  There were two priests, a Marist Brother, two Sisters and a seminarian on the panel.  It was very interesting to hear their stories.  All different but with some similarities. Fr. Kim is enjoying it very much.  He will return to Caringbah on December 18th.

We offer our sympathy to the Dorigato family on the death of Ricardo who died during the week.  His funeral will be next Thursday.  May he rest in peace.  Also during the week I heard of the death of Br Paul Leary, a Christian Brother who had been Principal  at St. Patrick’s College, Sutherland and Waverley College. He was a very fine person.  May he rest in peace.

Yours in Christ,                                                           Kerry.

There is a beautiful children’s story book called ‘The Invisible String’ by Patrice Karst. It speaks about the fact that people who care for each other are always connected by a very special string made of love. Even though you can’t see it with your eyes, you can feel it with your heart and know that you are always connected to the ones who have become a special part of your life story and life journey. And so it is for me...as I say farewell again, I add a message of heartfelt thanks for faith and friendship shared. I will be continuing my ministry within the Church in the Sutherland Shire focusing on Faith Education and the Sacraments of Initiation with Children and their Families, Spirituality and Spiritual Direction. May you be blessed abundantly this Christmas and throughout the New Year! May the ‘invisible string’ of faith and friendship continue to keep us connected! In gratitude, Gisella

The Third Week of Advent

On the First Sunday of Advent we lit the candle of HOPE and LONGING and last week the candle of PEACE.  This week, we light a flame of JOY, as we recall with gratitude what God has given.

Come Lord Jesus, Come!

You are the way, the truth and life!

The Jesse Tree

Our Jesse Tree in the Church Foyer is an amazing symbol of Jesus’ Family Tree.

“So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations;

and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations;

and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.”

Matthew 1:17

Did you know?

¬The nativity scene or crib is said to have been first created by St. Francis of Assisi after he returned from the Holy Land where he had visited the birthplace of Jesus. St. Francis used live animals. ¬The Christmas Tree is said to have started with St. Boniface (c690-755), the man credited with bringing Christianity to Germany. It was an early example of what we call inculturation!¬
